In Stage 5 CKD, you have an eGFR of less than 15. You may also have protein in your urine (i.e., your pee). Stage 5 CKD means your kidneys are getting very close to failure or have already failed. Kidney failure is also called end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). If your kidneys fail, you will need to start dialysis or have a kidney transplant to live.
