Before I begin, I am currently reading volume 8 of the LN, but I will only talk about the anime so far. I'm sure I'm not the only one who noticed that a couple of Legion machines are based on WWII German tanks. Asato is definitely a WWII buff from all of the references in the anime and LN, which includes machines and each nation in the story. I will mention that I'm not a tank expert, but I've been fascinated by tanks ever since I watched GuP, so I have some basic knowledge on them. Also, there are machines that I couldn't find any real-life counterparts for; any information about them is welcomed. Löwe: This is based on the Panzerkampfwagen VII Löwe; it even has the same name. It was never built and was stuck on the drawing board. Legion Version •Weight: 50 tons •Main Armament: 120 mm Smoothbore Cannon •Secondary Armament: 12.7 mm Machine Gun Real World Version (according to schematics) There were two variants of the Löwe design: •Weight: 76 tons (70.01 K), 90 tons (72.01 K) •Main Armament: 105 mm (4.1 in) L/70 Gun (70.01 K), 105 mm (4.1 in) L/70 Gun or 88 mm (3.5 in) L/71 Gun (72.01 K) (supposedly, there was a 149 mm L/40 Gun design, which is used in the image below since it clearly resembles the Legion's Löwe) •Secondary Armament: 1 × Coaxial Machine Gun (70.01 K and 72.01 K) Dinosauria: My best guess is that it's based on the Panzerkampfwagen E-100 because of how close their specs are. Like the Löwe, it was never built. Legion Version •Weight: 100 tons •Main Armament: 155 mm Mounted Cannon Turret •Secondary Armament: 75 mm Coaxial Cannon and 2x 12.7 mm Heavy Machine Guns Real World Version (according to schematics) •Weight: 140 tons •Main Armament: 12.8 cm PaK 44 L/55, 150 mm KwK44 L/38, or 173mm Kwk44 (150 mm is shown in the image) •Secondary Armament: Co-axial 75 mm KwK 44 L/36.5 or 7.92 mm MG34 Morpho: We finally got to see a small peek of the Morpho in episode 6, so I wanted to include this one as well. This is based on the Schwerer Gustav, which was used between 1941 and 1945. While imposing in size, the real-life version was nothing but drawbacks: it was INSANELY heavy, needed tracks to be built in order for it to move, took around 2,000 people to operate, could only fire 14 rounds in one day, and it was a huge target for bombardment. Legion Version •Weight: 1,400 tons!!! •Main Armament: 800 mm Railgun •Secondary Armament: Real World Version •Weight: 1,350!!! •Main Armament: 800 mm Railway Gun •Secondary Armament: None I didn't include a lot of information since there isn't much on the Legion and the first two real world designs. If anyone finds mistakes in this post, feel free to correct me!
